continuing on the theme of MRAPs as the "general purpose" light armour of the Kurdish Army

I would contract with OTO MELARA to produce and install the "HIT" series of turrets for Kurdistan.

HIT FACT
105 - 120mm
HITFACT® is a three-man, power operated turret armed with a 120mm, 45 calibre or 105mm, 52 calibre low-recoil-force gun, intended for installation on light and medium weight tanks and wheeled or tracked tank destroyers.

Artillery / Fire Support / accurate AAA
Draco
The Draco is a remotely operated weapon station with multi-purpuse role against Air, R.A.M. and Surface targets, with high performance direct or indirect fire.

Tank Destroyed / IFV turret
OWS 30mm
The HITFIST® OWS is a remotely operated weapon station incorporating the latest technologies in the fields of electronics, signature and Man Machine Interface (MM I) and it is the best of class in terms of lethality, survivability and fightability.

Hmm couldn't RPG-7s pentrate it though?
The weak point of that light/meduim armoured vechile is the tires.
The Kurdish army doesn't really need anything too fancy. We need all our divisions mechanized, through light vehichles. Isn't the MRAP slightly too heavy for fast mobilty usage?

We are lucky that Kurdistan is a country full of high mountains and many valleys.
We Kurds know how to fight in these mountains, we've thousands of years experience and history. 'No friends but the mountains.'

The cities need good anti-aircraft protection and their must be at least 2 mountain divisions, garding the Iranian / Turkish border.
Even the USA won't be able to defeat the Peshmerga if the battle is going to be fought in the mountains. There tanks can't climb up the mountains and their jets won't do much damage. + There must be a lot of anti-aircraft systems protecting the mountain areas.

Just using the USA since their army is the strongest in the world :P

RPG isn't a problem vs MRAPs. they are designed to deal with these things. They also come with "cages" to protect against even tandem warhead anti-tank missiles... like iraq's new BTR4s and M113A2 upgrades.

hi ideas.

The Zerevani AT105 Saxons are not MRAPS. What I mean is a fleet of "standardised" MRAP platform that can be used for a very wide variety of purposes.

I would fit these MRAPS with self defence measures and cages to give them a measure of protection better than most APCs. I would then use this "platform" as the basis for the full range of offensive and defensive "weapons stations" for the Kurdish Army. including a fire support vehicle "light tank" as well as "tank hunter" vehicles with anti tank missiles and SP artillery. This "commonality" ensures ease of maintenance for the Kurdish Army.

Also, these MRAPS are within the technological ability of Kurdistan to assemble locally and modify with necessary weapons stations locally too - with help from expert countries like South Africa.

For the tanks, there is NO POINT buying anything that doesn't match the M1A1SA / K2 tanks. As I wrote earlier, and you reiterated, tanks are needed only for the plains. but since Erbil is vulnerable to armoured blitzkrieg from the west and south, Kurdistan WILL need a considerable number of tanks there.

Air Defence is key. But its also important to make the "correct" choices. no point in spending a single penny on AAA, I would go for a short/medium altitude ground based mobile AD systems (russian is pretty good), and for the "high altitude" rely on the fighter jets.

so is Kirkuk , Khanaqin and kurdish disputed parts of Mosul.

Khanaqin itself isn't, but the areas to the north are. I've seen pictures of my family on facebook taken pictures from when they were in Khanaqin, there were mountains in the background.
