this 40 year old plane is still in kirkuk and can't be used for training on anything  would make a nice gate guard or museum piece though. by the way, no one makes parts or lubricants for it anymore anywhere on planet earth, since the last user stopped flying them decades ago!

Alan, you really need to be slightly more realistic about things!

And how old are the Iranian planes ? And you don't know 100% they can't be restored or PROVE me wrong.

And stop undermining what Peshmerga has or does , there is nothing wrong with restoring these as they would be cheap , if 100 year old cars can be restored then a 40 year old plane can be too.

i am not undermining anyone. but your claims are just ludicrous. Instead of focusing on something REAL for the peshmarga you're coming up with these ludicrous day dreams! that the Peshmarga themselves would laugh at!

Well I agree with you that it is unlikely a 40 year old plane would be useful, or if it were used then training purposes solely would be its only utility.

Arabs paid for it with our Kurdish oil and blood, so it belonged to us at the first place.

does anyone know what kind of small arms weaponry peshmerga use? (Zastava M92,AK-47,M16,G3s etc)
please,not the list from wikipedia.
do we use more modern versions of AKs? Like AK-74 or AK-12?

The Peshmerga dont have jets, why nobody understand that? Yes we need new jets, but with posting pictures from old demolished Jets, we dont get usable Jets.

How do you think they can train with a old demolished jet? And for what? We dont need pilots who can fly with old jets, which the Peshmerga will never use. We need pilots who can fly with new jets like F 16 or other jets.

I think South kurdistan have now the possibility to open a new Fighter pilot school. And so they have the excuse to buy fighter jets, because they need it for the training. Of course Iraq will protest against that, but if we find a state which sell us the jets, Iraq can do nothink like in the oil dispute.

quite possible , i think we should keep and restore the old jets for training purpose only , and buy some new ones like F22 to make our enemies think twice about attacking even one of our villages .

our enemies need to understand we are not into attacking or occupying but they are .

don`t you think F-22 is kinda expensive? ;) i don`t think US would sell them to us nor do i think we will have the infrestucture and econemy to buy them.
i think jets like F-16,F-15,F/A-18,SU-27,JF-17,J-10,thypoon,MiG-29,J-11,SU-30 (and others in that "class") are the modern ones we should expect to buy in the near future.
its not likely we will get 5th generation jets in the near future,as US is the only one who operates 5th generation aircraft at this moment. (while china, russia, india, japan and S.korea is developing 5th gen aircraft).

Its not important which jets, for the beginning we need any jet that we can use in the war and that have a deterrent effect to our enemies.

Of coruse for the beginning these expensive jets are not possible. But I talk about Jets from countries like serbia, china or maybe russia, this jets are cheaper but they are useful for the war.

But Kurdistan is not a indipendent state and have no right to buy heavy weapons like Fighter Jets. But if Kurdistan opens a Fighter pilot school, they have a excuse to buy Jets, they can say we will only use them for the training, but of course they will use them for the peshmerga.

Iraq will not accept that, but if we find a state that sell us the jets, Iraq can not prevent that, they can only protest against that like against the oil deal.

Like I wrote before on another thread. Kurdistan needs a proper modern fighter force. Its something that would cost in the order of $8-$10Bn initial capital with $2Bn / year running cost. Having an airforce is not cheap. But without it all of Kurdistan's neighbours can play football with it! (as the iraqi saying goes).

JF-17 thunders - 2 squadrons
SU-30/35s - 1squadron
SU39 - 1 squadron

Will cover (south) Kurdistan's needs very adequately by deterring any neighbour from attacking.

Yes I agree with you, the most important think is that these Jets have a deterrent effect, but the problem is how the Peshmerga can get this jets?

This is the Erbil airport, right? (I'm not so sure, please correct me if it's not) If so, what are those helicopters in the background? Looks like the bells I posted not so long ago, the small picture looks like the picture of the Police helicopters, but the ones in the background are military green colored. Correct me if I'm wrong.
