just wanted to share with all of you my familly's experience last week-end.
We are from the region between Amed and Mardin, and this year my parents, brothers and sister all went for the first time to Zakho and Dohuk for 2-days trip!
Even thoug my younger borthers (14-18) at first thought it wouldn't be an emotional experience...well apparently when they passed the border into Kurdistan and were greeted by the Peshmerga in Kurdish outfits and flags on their arms, they all started to get very excited.
My Dad (who for the record cried only on a few occasions, may be 3-5 times in my life) cried with my mother...
They were literally greeted with drinks (orange juice
They absolutely loved it and hopefully I'll get some pictures soon...oh, do I wish I was there with them.
Now, with the less plaisant side, they did have to wait for about 4hours on the border, and went back and forth between offices to get the right documents. They even got a new licence plate for their car to make sure that they do not become a "target" on the road.
When they went back to Turkish-occupied-Kurdistan, they were harrased by the turks, and had to wait there as well...but at the end, they do all have a stamps on their passport saying Kurdistan Region
I look forward to the day when people of Zakho would go north the border and be greeted by Kurdish border guard and get a Kurdistan stamps on their passport too...
D...
