Is Diyarbakir safe to visit for tourists?
The Baba of a Kurdish family said it was dangerous.. that's why I didn't go there. But I want to go there another time.

The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Yeah it is very safe and beautiful. The Kurdish people will love you the minute you tell them you are a friend of the Kurds just like the other Kurdish cities

it was perfectly safe 4-5 days ago in town
but it depends what you mean by safe. what would you plan on doing there which could be called unsafe?

I just want to visit it, just like everbody else.. But according to Turkish newsreports people from a bus got robbed by the evil devilish PKK.. and in a shooting several people got killed when a thief tried to rob a shopkeeper, who resisted.. (also in Amed)..
That's why.. I got advised not to go..
But is it true that's over 50 degrees in Diyarbakir in summer?

FOUR years ago in Urfa it was 48 degrees in July... So I don't doubt that there MIGHT be a chance you would experience that much in Amed too...

Nearly everywhere in Kurdistan is very hot in the summer so if you're worried about the heat, I'd advise you to go in the Spring.
I wouldn't be so worried about any risks in Amed. It is a wonderful city and you are taking the same risks going to other safe places too. But if you're worried about that and you do go, just don't wonder around at night

I have only spent summers in Diyarbakir, and the hottest that it ever got was 48, but it is relatively easy to get used to the heat, just don't think about it and get plenty of water. Diyarbakir the city is incredibly safe as well as some of the larger towns like Bismil, only be careful visiting villages as the jandarmas do not look on that too favorably upon it----but I would recommend going anyway....the best people that I met there were from the tiny villages.

People from Silvan are weird though. First Leyla Zana, then a bitch in Hassankeyf that wanted to prevent us from taking pictures of mosque...the "Yasak" disease is terrible in Turkey...

The nicest ppl I ever seen in Silvan were 2 huge and handsome Turkish policemen I had to tell

No, Turkish policemen, there are not much Kurdish policemen in Kurdistan. But in general people were nice in Silvan. Perhaps they get rid of their bad elements by sending them elsewhere.
