Talabani: Fighting Turkish government is insult to Kurds

05/09/2005 KurdishMedia.com - By Bryar Mariwani
London (KurdishMedia.com) 05 September 2005: I have a house in Ankara and when I retire I want to retire and live in Istanbul, "I love Istanbul very much". Jalal Talabani, the Iraqi president told Turkish daily Hurriyet on Sunday.

Jalal Talabani, the Iraqi President, in an interview with a Turkish journalist, Yalcin Dogan, said, "The Kurds were the first forces who struggled for the unity of Iraq. Of course, there are some young dreamers who want an independent Kurdish state and you know also Colonel Ghadafi… [A greater and united Kurdistan] is impossible. In the past there were those who were dreaming about this but not now. No able politician will chase a failed project.

In regards to the resumption of the PKK/Kongra Gel armed struggle against the Turkish government, Talabani said, "Let me be frank, fighting the current Turkish government is an insult to the Kurdish people. This is a terrorist act. This is against the process of democracy in Turkey. This is only in the interest of the enemies of the Kurdish people…"

When he was asked about the number of the possible federal states in Iraq, Talabani counted "The Kurdistan federation is accepted by all parties in Iraq, a Shiia region, a Sunni region, and the fourth Baghdad".

Talabani also said that he likes classic music, as well as classic Kurdish, Turkish, Arabic and Persian music.

Talabani said that he reads all the important headlines in the Iraqi newspapers during breakfast. At night, he reads books. He said that he has just finished a book by Hillary and Bill Clinton. He has recently read books by Madeline Albright and a book about Imam Ali books.

Talabani also has a lot of money and villa's. You think he picked up a weapon and fight? He was safe as a leader, because leaders don't fight, only with words.
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Dear, you're confusing Talabani with Barzani perhaps?

Talabani started in the army, he then graduated and created his own party in the mountains. And now he lives in the green-zone. And NO as a peshmerga in his early years he did not have any bodyguards. So Talabani worked his way up.

Some ppl tend to forget this or ignore it and instead compare him to Barzani. Barzani wasn't even born when Talabani graduated from law-school.

Talabani is a chapter of its own in Kurdish history. Mulla Mustafa Barzani came to love Talabani for his braveness and curage.

I am not painting an immortal hero, I can critisze Jalal Talabani but at the same time keep my honour in place. It's all about respect and the gift of questioning.

Barzani and Talbani are both humans who got their power from the forgiens !

Barzani (the father) was simply Shah and America's pupet , and they played with him and with his nation as a Reall Pupet.
the Jalal came out of Barzani's party and set up his own .

and after the Mostafa Barzani , Jalal and Massood both remained pupets of neighoubours , I remeber 5-6 years ago Massood, used to start his speecch with "Hello to Great Ayatollah Khomeyni " (iranian leader , who killed thousands of iranian kurds)...

Mam Jalal has had tight ties with iran and turkey too . I rememeber during the Iran ellection , Jalal said he supports Rafsanjani to win the ellection (Iranian Kurds boycotted that un-democratic ellection ...but jalal asked iranian kurds to turn out ... at least jalal could supportt reformist nominee not rafsanjani who is famous for his crimes.)

these leaders in south never stood on their own foot . Never .
if you look at the map, South Kurdistan is so small ....
Jalal and Massood didnt do such a Great Job by making an American NoFly Zone Supported Semi-automous region.
and mind that ppl in south gave more than 300 000 martyns for this small autonomy...and I still belive if there wasnt america's war against iraq (two times) ...they couldnt even get this little..

so please dont call jallal or massood a hero...they did nothing...they waged kurds many wars...as vladimir said , leaders just play with words they dont fight directly , and at last they got nothing...except an autonomy which MUST kiss Turkey's ass EVERYDAY so RAPIDLY (or they would crack it down). (and also must respect american's ambition as long as they are our masters....for example we agreed to do the contitiuion on Time..while there was so much more to gain in the draft...)
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

first of all i will like to tell my brother medya not to say bad words to any leaders, just as mck. is saying have a polite discussion with each other.

And to mck. I am a hardcore party and i will never say such think about mam jalal, why do u have to mix barzani into the picture Everytime someone is saying something about mam jalal ? Diyako is not a party , he is a Kurd from rojhalat and he says similar things about others leaders too. And please dont say that President barzani didn't fight. Just today I saw a program that showed him with his fighters in kurdistan during 1988 when saddam was bombing kurdistan with chemical we open.

Both Mom jalal and kak masoud are good leaders they have fought whole of their live. They both have mistakes but the relationship is very good now and we should respect it. United we stand kak Mck.

Agree
And I agree with Talabani: whereas guerilla fight against former turkish governments were justified, fighting this one is useless. Kurds in Turkey need a political fight. And a political fight does not mean "freedom for öcalan" but "democracy" "human rights", "economical developement", and "no dam in Hassankeyf!!!"

Guys you got this all wrong. Please read my note again
I am not painting an immortal hero, I can criticize Jalal Talabani but at the same time keep my honour in place.”

I’m saying: it is wrong when ppl compare Barzani & Talabani to each other since, for starters, their parties are based on two different ideologies. I may not like their parties and the people standing behind them but I respect them as two leaders of great significance. I never tolerate when people aim their critic at wrong things as “Kurdish Freedom Fighters” did here.

Did I say anything negative about Barzani? Ehh?

Kardox, I don’t want to make this into a Talabani vs Barzani debate, that's NOT my point. And btw, I saw the documentary too and No he was not fighting, he went to the mountains and gave speeches to the peshmerga encouraging them which I think he did great.

Kardox you wrote:

Indeed, I agree! Halleluja (just one basic thing: its miss/xanim/mckurd but not kak :D )

well , that was for Miss Mckurd ;) You said something about mam jalal and he/she mixed barzani into the discussion, maybe because he assumed that you and Vladamir are kdp supporters

Turkey had been one of the worst diactorship against Kurds but it is not the case now. Syrian and Iran are more oppressive than Turkey. And Talabani is a clever politician. He know that a Kurdish state (independant or not) could not survive by fighting Turkey or refusing partnership. It could be a suicide.

No no, I'm sure 100 000 peshmergas with AK 47 can crush the turkish army, reconquer north kurdistan, give west armenia to armenia, Izmir to greece, and Amasya to Mithridate.

Where do you live "kurdish freedom fighter", you can go to Irak and join the PKK, it's not to late if you really want to fight!!!!!!!!!!!!
