The trouble is that much Assyrians left their land since the WWI and continue to leave it nowadays. There is not a movement of "return to homeland" like Sionism, it is the contrary.
Seems though that some Assyrians from hakkari come back in Turkey but I doubt that Turkey will accept independance of Christian Hakkari.
after killing 70% of Assyrians in the first world war there havent been much left to flee.
first assyrians tried to return 3 times back to hakkari at the third time they left it for ever just some families later came back.
then all assyrians have been again stelled in their ancient homeland north iraq that was ok till 1933 after the iraqi army came and massacred some 3000 innocent childrens women assyrians and even older people.
after that my familie and thousand more went to the khabour river were they have been given land from the french people who before wanted to setlle us in Brasil funny french people. ok after that some thousand familie fleed to syria some went back to iraq and some went to europa.
so then assyrians stayed at this places and become abit more like 2 mio around mesopotamia. till the first gulf war there still lived many assyrians after that many assyrians fleed again cause kurds had now there autonomie and there have been some trouble between assyrians living in this areas with the kurds so most people fleed and by this anfal many assyrians were forced to leave the northen villages and settle to biger cities kirkuk, mosul, bagdad and basra.
for a movement to return back to iraq its not the right time just look how it is now but dont worry about it it will change within the next 10 years i am sure about it cause its the same what is in turkey now many assyrians go back not only to hakkari also to tur abdin its close to the syrian border and that was always inhabited by assyrians.
that was a short way to tell you about assyrians for the last 90 years.
