An insurgent group has threatened to cause explosions at a number of offices and facilities of Kirkuk, a situation which may lead to the announcement of a red alert.
A security source who preferred to remain anonymous told Kirkuk Now “There have been repetitive threats from an insurgent group to attack a number of offices and facilities of Kirkuk.”
According to the source, the threatened locations include the building of the governor’s office, the Kirkuk courthouse, the Citizenship Office and Kirkuk Television which is affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. The source stated further that the threats may eventually lead to the announcement of a red alert.

Ahmed Askari, the head of the security committee of the Kirkuk Provincial Council told Kirkuk Now “There are complete preparations made and a state of readiness in the offices which are threatened.”
Askari stated that halting the activities in the offices and facilities would lead to nervousness among the people of Kirkuk, and it was based on the court’s decision and the court is responsible to end it.
“It is true that there are proper preparations and readiness, but so far there has been no announcement of a red alert in Kirkuk,” he added.
